- As per Corinna
Since Pat and I met at the fireworks we make sure that we go to at least one show every year on one of the Saturday's. It's one (of our many) anniversaries that we look forward to and acknowledge every year so of course it seem more than fitting that he would propose here.
We headed down with two of our friends Laura and Tyler who were told a month in advance to not make plans for July 28. This was so I wouldn't get suspicious as to why he really really wanted to go this year because he kept telling me that Laura and Ty really wanted to join us. So we head down, scope out a spot near the entrance to False Creek and settle in for the show. We all get our cameras out and start messing around with shots. I had just bough a Nikon D40 so I wanted to try it out.
After a few minutes he starts to get a little anxious (turns out this was the nerves kicking in). He goes to reach for his bag, then wants me to move in front of him. Then reaches for something else. After much movement and kerfuffle, he finally tells me he has a gift for me. Since this is sort of an anniversary for us I didn't think too much of it. That and for our first year anniversary he gave me a cute little bear before the fireworks started.
So I feel bad because I didn't think of anything but out comes this bear (from Build-a-bear) and suddenly I notice the bear is holding a box. Well I can figure out what's going on now. So I open it, he asks me to marry him, I say yes and I'm getting pretty giddy now. Well next he reaches into his bag again and pulls out another ring box with A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT RING! Well now I'm very giddy and confused. Then he proceeds to say that I can't keep either one. I'm like WHAT?!?
Turns out that Spence Diamonds royally screwed up. Pat was looking at a solitaire setting for me, picked it out and they told him it would be ready in a few weeks. The day comes and he still hadn't heard from Spence Diamonds. So he calls and they say they're running a day behind. He says that's fine...but ship it to the Langley store he'll pick it up there instead since he'll be in town. Okay fine. But next day the phone call comes that the ring is here and in Vancouver. Nice to know they were listening. So Pat sends our friend Andrew to pick it up and Pat doesn't check the setting right away. On Friday (day before) he opens the box up only to see THE WRONG SETTING INSIDE! It's the diamond he order but its in the wrong setting. So Saturday (the big day!) he goes down to Spence and picks up the prototype of the ring I'm suppose to have.
Oh and to top it off on Friday he walked into build-a-bear to get me the stuffed monkey (not the bear) that I have always talked about getting only to find out that it has been discontinued (which now we find it hasn't). The poor guy just wasn't having any luck.
But I got to walk around with 2 rings on for about a few days until my proper setting came in. And the cool part is how many girls can say they've had 3 engagement rings from one engagement?
